How to use P3DDebinarizer to convert binarized p3d models to editable MLOD format
P3DDebinarizer is a tool that can convert binarized p3d models (ODOL format) to editable MLOD format. This can be useful for modders who want to edit or modify existing models from Arma 3 or other games that use the same engine.
To use P3DDebinarizer, you need to download the latest release from here. The zip file contains two files: P3DDebinarizer.exe and bis.dll. You need to place both files in the same folder as the binarized p3d model you want to convert.
Then, you need to open a command prompt window and navigate to the folder where you placed the files. You can do this by typing cd followed by the path of the folder. For example, if you placed the files in C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\P3D, you would type cd C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\P3D.
Next, you need to type the following command: P3DDebinarizer.exe -f yourmodel.p3d, where yourmodel.p3d is the name of the binarized p3d model you want to convert. For example, if you want to convert a model called soldier.p3d, you would type P3DDebinarizer.exe -f soldier.p3d.
The tool will then start converting the model and display some information on the screen. When it is done, it will create a new file called yourmodel_debin.p3d in the same folder. This is the converted model in MLOD format. You can then open it with any tool that supports MLOD format, such as Oxygen 2 or Blender.
Note that P3DDebinarizer may not work with some models that have complex features or encryption. It may also produce some errors or warnings during the conversion process. You should always backup your original models before using P3DDebinarizer and check the converted models for any issues.
In this article, we will show you some examples of how to use P3DDebinarizer to convert binarized p3d models from Arma 3 to editable MLOD format. We will use two models from the vanilla game: a soldier and a helicopter.
Example 1: Converting a soldier model
The first example is a soldier model from the NATO faction. The model file is located in the Arma 3 installation folder, under Addons\characters_f.pbo. You can use a tool like PBO Manager to extract the pbo file and access the model files inside. The model file we want to convert is called B_Soldier_01.p3d.
We will copy the model file to a new folder called P3D on our desktop and place the P3DDebinarizer.exe and bis.dll files in the same folder. Then, we will open a command prompt window and navigate to the folder by typing cd C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\P3D. Next, we will type the command P3DDebinarizer.exe -f B_Soldier_01.p3d and press enter.
The tool will start converting the model and display some information on the screen. It may take a few seconds or minutes depending on the size and complexity of the model. When it is done, it will create a new file called B_Soldier_01_debin.p3d in the same folder. This is the converted model in MLOD format.
We can then open the converted model with Oxygen 2 or Blender and edit it as we wish. For example, we can change the texture, add or remove parts, modify the animations, etc. Here is a screenshot of the converted model in Oxygen 2:
Example 2: Converting a helicopter model
The second example is a helicopter model from the CSAT faction. The model file is located in the Arma 3 installation folder, under Addons\air_f_beta.pbo. You can use PBO Manager to extract the pbo file and access the model files inside. The model file we want to convert is called O_Heli_Light_02_unarmed_F.p3d.
We will copy the model file to the same folder as before and use the same command prompt window. We will type the command P3DDebinarizer.exe -f O_Heli_Light_02_unarmed_F.p3d and press enter.
The tool will start converting the model and display some information on the screen. It may take longer than the soldier model because it is more complex and has more features. When it is done, it will create a new file called O_Heli_Light_02_unarmed_F_debin.p3d in the same folde
